Plans for City Magistrates’ Court are Approved

The new, £80 million landmark Magistrates' Court building, to lie close to the City centre has been approved by Birmingham City Council Planning Committee on Thursday 11th December.
The new Magistrates' Court will comprise 24 court rooms plus accommodation for staff, judiciary, witnesses, defendants, professionals and members of the public totaling approximately 20,600 sq.m. over 13 levels.
CSJ Brooke Smith worked alongside international architects Denton Corker Marshall, to develop the proposals for Her Majesty's Courts Service.
Louise Brooke Smith, Director says the development will set new standards for design in Birmingham city centre:
"Denton Corker Marshall designed Manchester's award-winning Civil Justice Centre and this application is similarly innovative in its design.
"We've worked closely with the development team and the local planning authority to ensure the proposals meet the strict criteria laid down for this regeneration area, while still delivering an ambitious and ground-breaking building that Birmingham and indeed HM Court Services can be proud of."
It follows the Masterplan for the area which has set a blue print for new development and which links Eastside with the City centre"
The new Court building is to lie within Masshouse, at the corner of Moor Street Queensway and Chapel Street and it is hoped that construction will commence before the end of 2009.
