Residential scheme secured at appeal for Bristol City Council

CSJ Planning has secured outline planning consent for Bristol City Council for a site at 176 High Street, Portishead for residential development of approximately 30 dwellings.  The site, which formerly was part of an agricultural tenancy, was initially refused planning permission by North Somerset Council Planning Committee in September 2008, against an Officers recommendation for approval.

The City Council decided to appeal the decision and a Planning Inquiry was held in December 2008.  Fran Chick of CSJ Planning, provided evidence at the Inquiry to justify the site's acceptability for residential development, along with an area of open space and other environmental improvements.  The Planning Inspector concluded that the planning appeal should be allowed and that a full award of costs should be made against North Somerset Council on the basis that the application should have been approved at Committee and the City Council had been forced into unnecessary expenditure in bringing the appeal forward.

Jeremy Bladon, Director of CSJ Planning Consultants commented "this site, lying within the town centre of Portishead and within one of the urban principal areas of North Somerset was an ideal site to help meet the growing need housing including affordable housing within North Somerset.  We and the City Council feel vindicated in reluctantly having to take this planning application through the appeal system in order to gain consent."
