Success for Sovereign Housing Association
Wednesday 10th June, 2009CSJ Planning Consultants has secured planning permission on behalf of Sovereign Housing Association for the redevelopment of shops and flats on Barrowmead Drive in Lawrence Weston, Bristol. Planning permission has been granted by Bristol City Council for the demolition of the existing buildings and the erection of 10 houses, three flats and one retail unit that can be converted to an additional flat should the marketing of the unit for retail use prove unsuccessful. The permission also comprised landscaping, car and cycle parking provision and refuse and recycling facilities. The main planning issues surrounded the design of the new building, the extent of replacement retail floorspace, impact upon surrounding properties and highway safety. The site previously benefited from planning permission for its redevelopment to provide a Healthy Living Centre but due to funding difficulties this never materialised and Bristol City Council approached Sovereign Housing Association to see if they would be able to drive forward the redevelopment of the site. Chris Rose, an Associate Director with CSJ Planning, explained that this was a high quality scheme that was fundamental to the continued regeneration and enhancement of this part of Bristol.
